Though its location on cheesy, traffic-choked Highway 1 isn't terribly promising, once inside Moon makes a stylish, classy impression. The restaurant may offer both Japanese and Thai cuisines but the spare, sparsely appointed dining room is more Japanese than Thai. There's plenty of gleaming blond wood, lots of comfy banquettes and a sushi bar in the center of the room. Moon's Thai cuisine is a cut above most of its local competitors. Among te better dishes are savory red curry chicken, whole fried snapper with mild chile sauce and larp, a warm, spicy salad (available with beef, pork or chicken). "Spring break" duck (roasted, then fried) with lots of crunchy vegetables is simple but tasty; beef satei is good but skip the icky-sweet peanut sauce. Finish with sticky rice and fresh mango with a rich condensed milk sauce.
