What People Are Saying About Sushi Maki

In Short – A long way, both figuratively and literally, from the raging trendoid scene on South Beach, Sushi Maki is a low-key favorite of locals and window shoppers along busy Sunset Drive. Decor is minimal but personable. The restaurant specializes in all manner of rolled ("maki") sushi, from vaguely traditional to boldly wacky. Some of the more interesting rolls are the spicy kimchee (conch, cucumber, spinach) and meal-in-one Spider (soft-shell crab, asparagus, cucumber, lettuce and mayonnaise).

Great Sushi

by Googinomiks

My wife and I have loved this place ever since it opened. We always come here for big occasions. Their sushi rolls are unique and made to impress. I consistently get good service here and it is a pleasure to be a regular customer.

  • Pros: Sushi is best in town
  • Cons: Getting a table

One of the greats.

I love Sushi Maki! You have to go there at least once. Try the Dragon rolls. I personally prefer the one in Coral Gables.

  • Pros: Affordable, great atmosphere.
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Sushi Maki is big dissapointment

by moi51

Don't order Red Curry Thai (chix or shrimp) because entire dish is a rip off. Tiny tiny serving. In fact, they'll give you a tiny scoop of rice not even sufficient to feed my 2 years old, never mind even one regular adult. Manager was very unhelpful and he actually said that the rice is expensive. Now, while business might be slow, and money is tight for EVERYONE -- even loyal customers like us -- the one staple which should not be skimped on rice and response from mgr. was truly not satisfactory.

  • Pros: sushi rolls okay
  • Cons: Hot dishes, rude waiters and ambiance not so great

The Details on Sushi Maki

What to Drink:

A few moderately priced French and California wines are offered, but it's hard to beat cold beer or warm sake.

Where to Sit:

It's a tiny place, with maybe a dozen tables inside and another handful on the sidewalk, plus a small sushi bar wedged into the long, narrow dining room.
