The Scene
Nobody ever said chic would be easy. The small, bi-level dining room can get sardine can-crowded and rock concert-loud, both of which you might overlook in the dim light while hunched over tiny, low-set tables trying to get your food to your mouth via chopsticks. It's an arrangement only optometrists, chiropractors and dry cleaners can love.
The Food
It's an exciting and innovative interpretation of Japanese cuisine. Nigiri sushi is exquisitely fresh and addictive, especially unctuous toro (tuna belly) and almost candy-sweet shrimp. Maki sushi is more daring but equally delightful. Don't miss the luxurious lobster tempura roll and arugula roll with crispy potato sticks. The seviche quartet (lobster, salmon, octopus and fluke) is excellent; gently steamed sea bass topped with aromatics and sizzling oil is sublime. Even teriyaki-style grilled sirloin is a revelation. Green tea tiramisu is perfectly done, but perhaps an acquired taste, but the molten-centered Valrhona chocolate cake is a taste everyone should acquire.

Went there when I was in Miami because I love the Bond St. Sushi in NY. The Miami one was horrible compared to the NY one (or compared to Burger King even) - the food was bad, the service was horrible (brought the appetizer and entree out at same time, when there literally wasn't enough room on the table for both, took away our waters to make them fit simultaneously), and they added all these weird charges so a bill that I expected to be $200 was $300. Save yourself a terrible time and go to Nobu or Sushi Samba when in Miami.

Bond St and the Townhouse hotel are a great way to spend an evening out of the chaos of South Beach. I have read reviews about it being hard to get into and maybe if you go early on a Friday like we did its the way to go. Our res was for 8pm. The quality and flavor of the sushi is excellent. The only small comment I could make is that the pieces seem a little bit smaller than what we're used to getting in nyc sushi restaurants. As far as the decor I loved the small tables and comfy couches and pillows, its makes it perfect for cuddling while nibbling. Service was great too., ours was very patient with us even though we were there for a couple hours ordering a couple items at a time and eventually had almost the whole menu. some of our favorites were the lobster tempura, scallop sushi, and grilled sea bass skewers

Fantastic, investive sushi, outstanding service, really hip environs and a well-selected wine list. Price are high, but not as high as many other places in South Beach in terms of the overall check. Highly recommend all of the traditional fish sushi, plus the beef tataki, eggplant appetizer and the sundried tomato and avocado maki. Desserts didn't look too exciting. Swing on over to the Delano for a night cap and heavenly dessert there.

Bond offers an intriguing roster of wines and premium sakes. A leaner, crisper sake is Ichinokura, while Fukunishiki delivers richer, more melon-like flavors. As for wines, 1999 Hugel pinot blanc pairs well with the delicate, seafood-oriented cuisine.

Avoid Collins Avenue by approaching the restaurant from the west and parking at the lot on 20th and Collins. It's $6 for the evening.
