Editorial Review for Whitelaw Hotel – by Stephen Bridges
The Scene
With black shag carpets, white vinyl sofas and groovy music in the lobby, Austin Powers would feel right at home. Visiting hipsters enjoying free cocktails every evening from 8pm to 10pm. The hotel attracts a young crowd, with more style than money, who come here to kick back and go out. The friendly staff will do its best to make sure you're on the list at the best clubs in town.
The Details
When you're ready to relax, the white-on-white bedrooms are small in size, like most in South Beach, but big on comforts. After a late night out or a long day at the beach, it feels like heaven to take a hot shower in the glass and limestone bathroom (featuring toiletries from Garden Botanica), slip into a waffle-weave spa robe and dive into your big, fluffy bed.

NEVER stay here. We booked our reservations for two rooms FOUR months in advance. When the first girl in our party arrived she was told they had our rooms but she could not check in until the person whose name the reservation was under had arrived. Within three hours we all were there, and they then told us they had lost our reservations. After refusing to leave without an explanation, we were told a million lies — they went from saying they lost the reservations to saying the rooms had leaks and couldn't be rented out! We spent hours trying to speak with the manager. She wasn't there and didn't answer calls from her employees (allegedly, anyway). We were not compensated in any way for this huge error and were told to come back the next day to speak with Karen. She amazingly had a "family emergency" that day and was unavailable to talk with us. What a horrible way to run a business. We had traveled from all over the country (L.A., NYC, Tennessee, San Fran and Ohio) to give our best friend a great bachelorette celebration. Whitelaw ruined the first several hours of our trip and offered nothing in return for their giant mistake! I am amazed they can stay in business. It's an embarassment to the entire South Beach area.
Pros: we booked for location

I was a guest at the Whitelaw Hotel from 12/30/03 to 1/4/04 and I just wanted to write to express to you how much I enjoyed my stay there. I found the hotel to be very clean, well-managed, and it managed somehow to be both hip and charming. All the staff was great, but I must single out Jeff, Patricia, and Michelle for particular praise. Jeff and Patricia always went above and beyond in trying to accomodate my requests for reservations and Michelle was also a great source for information. And their collective kindness was refreshing and sincere and reflected very well on the hotel. I certainly intend to stay at the Whitelaw during any future visits to Miami.
