In Short – South Beach's undisputed destination for celebrities and those who want to be them, this towering art deco compound was transformed into a surreal retreat by quirky star designer Philippe Starck back in 1995--and it's still hauter than ever. The 250-foot-long lobby corridor is like an entryway to a fantasy world of stealth wealth, where sheer white drapes sway from the ceilings and insouciant rich types mingle among some of the world's most iconic and unusual "living room" pieces--nary a glance is made at the $9,000 Eames La Chaise or the priceless gold Salvador Dali chair…
Editor's Tips
- Parking:
- If you've got the cash, valet parking at the hotel is easiest. If not, metered parking can be found on 17th Street, so don't forget to bring your quarters.
- Look Good:
- There's no official dress code at the Delano, but only the chic, the hip or the fabulous dare enter its doors, especially after dark.
- Know Before You Go:
- Hotel guests have access to complimentary chairs, umbrellas and a children's tented play area on the beach directly in front of the hotel. Water sports are available for a fee.
- The Extras:
- Blue Door is the hotel's restaurant offering cosmopolitan fare; reservations are highly recommended for dinner.
- Parking:
- Valet parking (which is located off-site) is $34 per night with in/out privileges.

Rude Rude Rude and YES THERE IS A DRESS CODE

I am staying at the Ritz Carlton and wanted to check out the Delano's restaurant and bar on my way back from dinner as a possible Friday night hang out and possible next stay. When my wife and I made our way up the steps the valet jumped on me and said "Excuse me sir are you a guest at the hotel?" I responded, "No, but I wanted to check out the bar and restaurant". He looked at me and said, " We have a dress code and do not allow shorts after 9:00 PM." and with no apology and an attitude as if I were low rent. I am an Executive and make great money, my wife is totally hot, and has a huge rock on her hand. My only infraction was wearing long white linen shorts and a designer T shirt when it was still 90 degress. Other groups of people were going into the hotel in shorts and not being accosted. Some of the valet and bell staff were in fact wearing shorts. In my opinion, this was totally unacceptable elitism. I have been eating at all the hot spots this week in South Beach but the Delano won't be one of them. Guess they feel the $350 I would have spent tonight is somehow beneath their standards. OY! This web site says there is no dress code. Whatever happened to honesty in advertising?
- Pros: Can't Tell You they would not let me past the front door
- Cons: The Valet Guys Cost them a lot of Business

Worth your time!

I have been here 4 times and each time it's gotten a bit better. The first time was awful so that isn't saying a lot! I agree with the last review..Prices are reasonable for food and excellent service but the drinks are overpriced. Crowd was very mixed, mostly late 20's to early 30's. The space is quite impressive and its always fun to check out the rest of the hotel on a nice buzz from the booze.
Love, love, love this hotel!

Being from L.A., it's not easy for a hotel to impress me. But I have to say, none of them compare to the Delano. I absolutely love this place! Every time I'm in Miami, you can find me here. One of the main reasons is that I simply love the decor -- I'm a huge Philippe Starck fan and the design in this place is so quirky, so eclectic, it's design heaven! From the big bear bench in the lobby and Eames rocker to the gyspy-lady chairs and hanging silks that lead to the hotel restaurant, this place is the absolute coolest. Some might say it's already had its heyday, but I say it's become a modern classic. What's more, the bar's mojitos are yummy and the food at the restaurant is consistently good. The little shop is also a hidden gem with all the fashion/culture mags and small selection of edgy fashion.
- Pros: Design, style, cool lobby shop
- Cons: It ain't cheap
