YOGA STUDIO: When it comes time to set your mind at ease, it takes more than a walled-in yoga instructor to do the trick. Location sets this Zen hotspot apart, located in the peaceful Belle Isle that bridges the bustle of Miami and South Beach. Guests can stretch out and relax on the heated marble floors in the Hammam lounge before heading off to their yoga classes or embarking on their own self-meditating rituals.

HAUTE HAIRCUTS: I'm not an eco-head by nature, but there is a certain amount of environmental guilt that comes from salons where stylists are emptying out aerosol cans and blaring juice-slurping blow dryers. This is the first hair salon to be carbon-balanced. In other words, whatever CO2 it takes out of the environment, it gives right back.

TATTOO PARLOR: I have no desire to get inked, but the same can't be said for many of my friends. I find that those with regrettable tattoos never want to discuss their tats, whereas the gushers are quick with the testimonials. This South Beach parlor may be just a few doors down from the more famous Miami Ink, but that's actually a blessing for those who want to proudly wear the colorful art of Brazilian-born artist, sculptor and tattooist Luiz Segatto.

GYM: I never learn. January resolutions to lose weight often find me warming up to annual gym memberships that are collecting cobwebs come February. I don't want to be surrounded by superior hardbodies or attend classes that will lull me into sleep. That doesn't happen here, where live DJs keep you amped up and clever classes such as Cardio Striptease and a beach tennis course add athletic fun to the fray.
